I think I need to branch out and try something new. Maybe a drawing a day or something. Here is my start. I love housetop and log cabin and bricklayer quilts--all the building block types. I don't think I am going to sew these--they are just explorations.

Hey Little Man!

On our bike ride to school today we got so many hellos. One guy shouted from his car, "Hey Little Man!" Finn kept saying, "that's such a nice thing to say, little man," and I agree. I am slowly graduating from little easy leggings for finn to pants with pockets, bowties and vests. Here is my latest fashion plate. The fabric is from Modern Domestic in Portland. The vest pattern is a modified version of a free pdf from Mother Huddle and the knickers are my own design.

Blue Dress

It's been a while since I checked in here. I have gotten terribly lazy and mostly just post to instagram these days! But, alas, I have a project I'd like to share. I made a new dress from a vintage pattern and am quite excited about it! The fabric is Everyday Organic Solids from Clothworks, where I work.

Finn!

Tyler took this photo of Finn recently and it encapsulates the phase he is in so well. Eyes wide open, alert, excited, ready to learn,playful, full of energy and FUN! Finn is so darling and I love him so much. What a special kid. And, look at what a bad mo-fo he is on the drums. That's rad! Happy Christmas and New Year Finners.

I Love Lava Lamps cushion!

I'm really excited about this project. I've been wanting a really big cushion for sitting on in the living room for a while and one of the gals who designs fabrics and patterns for Clothworks whipped this pattern up! Her name is Julie Creus and her business is called La Todera. I'm testing the pattern to make sure it works. Exciting!!!

I think this year I want to teach Finn about all the stars so I've been researching meteor showers to get us off to a really exciting start. Here is a good link I found with this year's calendar. Anyone interested in some evenings in the woods this winter?

Meet...can-man!

This is what is happening to all my canning supplies as they lay fallow. It was all Finn's idea and I'm pretty proud of how clever it is!

Hottie pad!

Love making these. I quilted/embroidered these in the car--oh and sewed the bindings on by hand. Oh dang! Handy pioneer road tripping. And they're gone as fast as they came--a gift for an after the fact wedding party, kind of like me and Tyler.

First hand quilted project!

I finished this last year, but never photographed it. All stash-scraps, of course!! Lots of pieces from grandma and the Kirkland seamstress.

Solo Show at the Old Rainier Brewery: August 11

It's been a little while since I played by myself in town so come on out and hear my tunes! (I've included a special sneak peek just for you guys.) Here are the stats: Old Rainier Brewery (3130 Airport Way South)--it's gonna be out front, I think, so very easy to find! Saturday, August 11th. 12:30 show start (30-45 minute set) with 9 other bands to follow I think it's a $5 door and that probably comes with some perks. Hope to see you there!

Library tote #???

Sweet new tote for Finn using Penguin + Fish's fox embroidery pattern!

I'm guessing I'll want to make at least a few more of these in my life. When I do a estimate of how many of these type of bag I have made in my life, you'd think I'd be sick of them. But, I'm not. I still love making little tote bags. And pot holders. And stretch pants. And the thing all of these items have in common, besides requiring a sewing machine, is that they are all quick and easy. Yup, quick and easy. So, why don't I LOVE the longer, more difficult projects as much? I do love them just as much, even more, but I don't enjoy them as much. To finish a long project, I have to go through some moments when I think the project is stupid, that I suck and that it's a waste of time of to even bother making anything. With a shorty, I don't even enter the woods because the reward is immediate and it motivates me to complete it. To complete the long ones, I have to be able to talk myself through some tough spots and then return the same project the next week that caused me so much frustration--and there's usually a couple of rounds of this. So, I'm starting a big project w Aly and it's gonna be great to have a partner to stick it out together with! More on that later!
