Another hat!

I am really starting to carve out a niche with this hat stuff. This one went to Miss Olivia Skye Lakeman, a fetching red-headed 2-year old with a come hither kitty face! And she hates hats. BUT, she loves flowers. So, I was really tricky and made a flower pin that I put on it and I think she's coming around. This one is made from two pairs of kids shorts from the Goodwill.

Two ideas

First, I really want to fix up the bentwood rocker that Melanie passed on to us. She was in search of one, found one really cheap but it has a busted seat so I am deciding whether I want to replace the cane seat or put in an upholstered (which I already know how to do). You can still sit in it and rock, but any day now I might drop through the seat and land on the floor! Then, I just across this picture and I think I want to paint it black, too. Actually, I know I do. If I paint it black, I can fill the all the little attempts to fix it with wood putty and paint right over them!

Second, my neighbor is organizing an art show for October involving fiber arts and I have an idea! See those paper cut-outs on the bottom right? I am going to try and make similar things out of fabric for making little bugs, houses and so on...interlocking pieces that are a little bit stiff/structural. I'll keep you posted.

book shelf of my own!

I have been meaning to show this off for quite some time now.
Ingredients:
-two cheap shelf holder from IKEA
-two free cardboard tubes from a dumpster at an architecture firm
-two long nails
-one cork (though i need a second)
-about 2 yards of long, skinny ribbon to fasten the tubes to the shelf holders

simple, inexpensive, and i think it is purdy cute.

always late

Sometimes deadlines that I impose on myself don't work. And I don't come through. And if someone else is involved, I back pedal. And sometimes I have to apologize for flaking out. And so on. This card is the final part of my most recent transgression. It is made from a file folder and I drew on it with pencil, colored pencil, pen and white-out.

these old lamps are new lamps with big eyes

I found this postcard at the MoMA in NYC but unfortunately didn't get to see this piece. If I owned this piece, I would want in my house too, so I totally understand. But the point is, I have always really liked these old lamps but they have been in need of a facelift. And poof, a round, oversized bulb has turned this thrift store cast-off into a curious little puppet creature to hang over your desk. I am going to do this.
