Hat in action!

This hat got a little funky as I mentioned earlier, but it still fits ok so Finn is rocking it! And, sort of like in that last post, Finn's not super pumped about panda-ing for me and showing sweet, natural smile right now. It's either a really huge fakey grin accompanied with a roar or some other flippant gesture/sound, or I just have to take a picture of from the back. Here is a rare, somewhat genuine smile for the camera + one that shows what most of the pics from this real looked like. The hat fabric and the bandana are all from ClothWORKs and are designed by this awesome gal, Alyssa Thomas.

Messy floor?!

No worries. I hate to admit it but we are reaching our 1 year anniversary in this house and I have NEVeR once vacuumed the sewing room floor. I'm sorry mom! You'll be so ashamed when you see it. Part of the reason is that I figured out that all you need is a decent magnet to find all the stray pins, needles and other tiny metal things that fall to the floor amongst all the scraps, thread and what not. After securing the space of sharp, dangerous objects, I am totally over the idea if vacuuming. But the scraps havent stopped me from busting out another little messenger hat for Finn. Full disclosure--this one is for an ad at work. Stay tuned on that! This pattern needs some serious honing. I keep making a lot of the same mistakes. Annie sent me a cool pattern for a welders hat. Maybe I'll scrap my homemade pattern and try that one next time.

Another hat!

I am really starting to carve out a niche with this hat stuff. This one went to Miss Olivia Skye Lakeman, a fetching red-headed 2-year old with a come hither kitty face! And she hates hats. BUT, she loves flowers. So, I was really tricky and made a flower pin that I put on it and I think she's coming around. This one is made from two pairs of kids shorts from the Goodwill.

finn got a new hat (thanks becca!) that sarah generously helped him model for you.

and, well, it's a touch big yet, but we're hoping either that his head gets big fast, or that we have sun ALL year so he can wear it everyday.


And it might not seem like much, but getting something into your hand and then close to your mouth to slobber on it is actually a skill you have to learn and practice. way to go finnjamin!

and, sheesh, if this one doesn't get you, i don't know what will.

hat for sale + link light loop is up

Tyler and I completed Link Light Loop on Broadway and it looks great. We had an informal opening at Dick's Drive-In across the street on the unusually chilly Friday night. Justin was kind enough to take some great pictures of the project. I got a few people shots. Thanks to all who made it out.

And, Yuko modeled the hat I just made(which is now called the John Boat hat, thanks to Tyler) and it looks great on her. I have it up for sale on etsy now so it's up for grabs!

Oh, and I ran a half marathon yesterday and came in at 2 hours and 1 minute! I am so excited and very sore. No pictures. Tyler didn't shoot any which is probably for the better. I am not one of those runners who looks effortless and elegant. I think my brother and I are going to set our sights on a full length 26 miler.

Now that August is over, I officially have to start diligently looking for work. I am working on my portfolio today and if anyone knows of cool gigs that I might like, please pass them on.
